PUTTING SPARTA FIRST
MEET MIKE
Mike Sylvester is a longtime Sparta resident, Deputy Mayor, planning board leader, and engineering executive running to restore fiscal responsibility, ethical leadership, and accountable government while putting People Over Politics.
Mike Sylvester at a Glance
Mike is running because Sparta needs stronger financial discipline, more accountable leadership, and decisions that put residents ahead of politics. He believes recent choices have created financial strain for taxpayers, weakened public trust, and left the township without the stability residents deserve.
If elected, Mike wants to restore responsible financial management, control spending and municipal debt, bring stability to township operations, improve contract negotiations and staff retention, support local businesses and economic development, and rebuild public trust through transparent government.
Mike brings more than 10 years on Sparta’s land use boards, experience as Deputy Mayor, and executive leadership managing operations, strategic growth, and financial performance for a national engineering firm. He combines public service knowledge with real-world financial and management experience.
Mike has helped stop the defunding of the Veterans tax exemption ordinance, supported a $500,000 grant for water utility pipe upgrades, fought to fund community events, helped advance a Newton-Sparta shared service agreement, and helped restore leadership to a fully staffed Planning Board.
Mike has been actively involved in supporting veterans and the VFW, military members and first responders, youth athletics and recreation, and community programs that improve quality of life for Sparta residents of all ages.
